Commando is looking for an agile team player to join our busy Product Development team as a Senior Product Development Specialist. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced environment, works well with deadlines and has strong technical design and sewing skills.  As the Senior Product Development Specialist, you will execute product lifecycle from initial concept through development to production

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Specific areas of focus: Fabric, Labeling, Cut and Sew development
  • Research (in close collaboration with designers)
  • Illustrator flat drawings
  • Sourcing communications regarding new fabric, prints and trim as required
    • Take lead on requisitioning all headers and samples from manufacturers
  • Ensure patterns are cut and sewn , performing sew/cut duties as required
  • Create costing packages
  • Verify yields for use in initial costing
  • Ensure all materials are available and ready for sample making
    • Place purchase orders for product development quantities of fabric, lace, trims, etc.
    • Order and approve lab dips, strike off for fabric, lace, trim.
  • Create and approve labels
  • Manage timeline/deadlines, ensuring process continues to progress
  • Develop technical spec packages
  • Coordinate fabric development and wash testing
  • Prepare product for market by delegating priorities to sample sewer, preparing samples for show, and prepping fabric and color cards  
  • Manage the dying of all applicable components
  • Serve as back-up to print specialist using Photoshop/Illustrator
  • Source and develop relationships with vendors including: dye vendors, fabric manufacturers, cutting & sewing manufacturers and component & trim vendors
  • Partner with production team to ensure smooth handoff from product development to manufacturing execution. Identify components needed,  preferred vendors and notify production team when product is approved for production

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

  • At least 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Strong technical design skills and sewing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Vendor management experience
  • Verbal and written communication skills a must
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment and multi task
  • Photoshop/Illustrator skills a must
